From 1976-77, law clerk for a federal judge. Following a stint as a litigation attorney, worked for fifteen years as a senior-level in-house counsel for NEC. Since 2003, has practiced business and employment law on Long Island and mediated and arbitrated commercial, consumer and employment disputes for the American Arbitration Association. As of December 2024, residing in Denver and offering ADR services in both the Denver and New York areas, and remotely elsewhere.

Over 40 years’ legal experience, initially as a trial lawyer, later, for 15 years, handling transactional matters and managing commercial, consumer, employment and intellectual property disputes and litigation throughout North America for NEC, a major computer and telecommunications company. Resolved workplace issues involving staff conflicts in medical practice and educational contexts; Mediated numerous contract disputes and conflicts arising under sale of business, shareholder and LLC operating agreements; Also mediated FLSA, employment discrimination, employment compensation, professional services, contracts, intellectual property, outsourcing, personal injury and insurance coverage disputes.

As a mediator, assist the parties in negotiating a mutually acceptable resolution to their conflict through facilitating their communication and problem solving. Familiar with and able to use a range of styles, skills and approaches, depending on what the particular dispute and parties call for. Goals in mediation are to help the parties (1) reach a a clearer and more complete understanding of their own and the other party's interests and concerns; (2) evaluate more realistically the strengths and weaknesses of each party's position; (3) communicate more effectively with the other party; and (4) develop and advance potential solutions. Utilize subject matter expertise to ask probing questions and assist the parties in identifying and crafting a workable and durable resolution. General approach is to be diplomatic, empathetic and professional and to establish that tone for the mediation. Prepare extensively and encourage the parties to exchange information in advance of and during the mediation, and to approach the process with "an open heart and an open mind."
