Civil trial attorney from 1971-2006 and 2012-2019 at the Carrington Coleman firm in Dallas (as a partner 1978-2006). Board Certified in Civil Trial Law from 1984-2008 by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Tried approximately 200 cases in five states and throughout Texas in federal and state courts and arbitration fora. Trial work included cases about securities issues, limited partnerships, legal malpractice, insurance claims, products liability, employment issues, sale and leasebacks, franchise and dealership disputes, deceptive trade practices, probate disputes, negligence, nursing homes, and construction issues, with amounts in controversy up to $80 million. Insurance related trials included employer and professional liability coverage issues as well as agency or broker issues, director and officer insurance, fidelity insurance, and lawyers', architects'' and engineers' malpractice claims. Also handled several dozen appeals. Associate Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates from 1984-1998. Designated by Texas Monthly as a Texas Super Lawyer in business litigation from 2003-2006 and in alternative dispute resolutions in 2007-2022. CONSUMER EXPERIENCE Acted as sole arbitrator in 2015-2020 in approximately 20 cases managed under a settlement of a national class action involving a major automotive manufacturer. The issues included Magnuson-Moss Warranty claims, various state "Lemon Laws," and settlement created rights. Acted as mediator, arbitrator, or advocate for one side in over a hundred other cases during 1972-2025 in matters concerning consumer issues including home damages or defective construction, express and implied warranty claims, usury claims, negligence, breach of contract, strict liability, deceptive trade practices act violations, Fair Credit Reporting Act, annuities, and a wide range of insurance claims.

In the 1980's volunteered as a mediator for settlement weeks in Ft. Worth. In 2001 had begun mediating securities cases and 2002-24 was a mediator for the NASD and New York Stock Exchange, now combined as FINRA. Was a member of the National Arbitration and Mediation Committee of the NASDR from 1996 to 1998. From February 2006 to January 2012 and January 1, 2020 to present was a sole proprietor acting strictly as a mediator (and arbitrator) for the full gamut of civil litigation including construction litigation, contract disputes, personal injury claims, securities disputes and real estate lawsuits. Is a charter member of the Texas Academy of Distinguished Neutrals. Has been designated as a mediator by a number of judges as well as being retained by counsel for the parties. In February 2012 returned to acting as an attorney for parties in mediations, arbitrations, and litigation as well as continuing to function as a mediator and arbitrator. Has been the mediator in over 300 cases to date. Was designated as a Texas Super Lawyer in business litigation during 2003-06 and in Alternate Dispute Resolution from 2007 to 2024 by Texas Monthly magazine. Has been a speaker on mediation, other alternate dispute resolution topics, and ethics on frequent occasions including before Dallas Bar Association groups and the Construction Law Conference of the University Of Texas School Of Law. Took formal mediation training in 2006 in the 40-Hour Basic Mediation Course at Dispute Resolution Center in Austin. Currently mediates a wide range of types of civil disputes, including those involving numerous parties or substantial complexity. Representative entities mediated include Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, Wadley Regional Hospital, Imperial Sugar Company, the State of Texas, JPMorgan Chase, RTKL Associates, American Express Centurion Bank, UBS Financial Services, Travelers Lloyds Insurance Company, G.E. Capital, Housing Authority of the City of Dallas, Morgan Stanley, and Pizza Inn. Matters mediated have included a probate dispute involving $10 million, customer claims against broker/dealers up to $20 million, a trust dispute of $5 million, and a land division disagreement involving several million dollars.

Issues that have frequently arisen in mediations are alleged misrepresentations that induced business transactions, statutes of limitations, breaches of contracts, fiduciary duties, restrictive covenants, tortious interference, construction of trusts, franchising issues, damage calculations based on lost business opportunities, and misappropriations of funds.

Mr. Bryant believes that the chances of success at mediation are maximized if the mediator exhibits three characteristics: thorough preparation through review of information from the parties' counsel prior to the mediation date; energetic and determined effort to find and discuss possible solutions; and attentive listening to the parties and attorneys. The mediation process must be tailored to the personalities of the participants and the nature of the issues, but patience is almost always crucial. Mr. Bryant welcomes guidance from the respective counsel on the background of the litigation and their opinions of the primary stumbling blocks. He expects the parties to understand their focus must be on the mediation and no other business distractions on the mediation date. Each party need to arrive with as open a mind as possible.
