Over 35 years as a litigating lawyer, first primarily on the plaintiff side, and later, while a partner, mostly on the defense side. Responsible for matters from small to significant, the latter including many involving seven figure amounts at issue, and occasionally eight figure amounts. Substantive areas of practice include construction, commercial, consumer, professional negligence, property damage, fire, explosion, water damage, premises, vehicular, personal injury, insurance disputes, and employment litigation. Participated in dozens of trials, and numerous mediations, and arbitrations. I now serve exclusively as an ADR neutral, and have conducted over 400 mediations and 100 arbitrations.

Mediated matters in all of the substantive areas of practice listed above. Many have been multi-party matters, including complex construction and fire damage matters with owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals, in various combinations, at the table. Others have included complex commercial disputes, including many business divorces, consumer claims, and estate disputes.

Address all issues in all of the substantive areas listed, and all factors influencing the dispute, including the parties' personal and professional needs, interpersonal conflicts, cost factors, need for confidentiality and non-disparagement terms, terms for performance, and security terms.

Generally evaluative, but adapted to the requirements of the circumstances and personalities of counsel and parties. View mediation as a process and not merely and event, with attention to pre-session posture and exchanges, pre-session consultations with counsel and parties, and follow up sessions and communications where necessary. Strive to connect with and understand the participants. Mindful to respect and support counsel and client’s relationship. Distinguished by a high level of energy and commitment to the process. Time isn’t wasted.
