Mediator Style & Process Preferences
My main goal as a mediator is to make sure all parties feel the process has been fair and that their positions, views and emotions have been heard and appreciated. I urge parties to not only share critical facts or data that they may rely on at mediation with the other party so everyone can evaluate the merits of the claims and defenses from the same factual playing field, but highly encourage parties to think about the dispute from the perspective of the other parties at the table.
To aid in this process, I typically ask for pre-mediation statements (which can be submitted confidentially or shared), and engage in pre-mediation calls with counsel for the parties. On these calls, I ask the parties to be prepared to discuss the facts, the mediation process and any unique circumstances or issues presented by this mediation. I have found that these calls permit the parties to get on the same page with the mediation process, as well as tailor the process for any unique issues in the case. This also helps me identify issues which the parties may need to investigate or analyze prior to the mediation and typically allows the mediation to be more efficient.
Technology Proficiency
Familiar with online platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams) and willing to mediate or arbitrate virtually. Comfortable using secure methods to transmit confidential documents or information. Obtained the 2025 TechCred Competency Credential by completing the New York Law School TechCred Course and certification examination. Coursework focused on exploring how technology is transforming arbitration, including developing practical skills for managing data protection and cybersecurity issues and handling AI-driven evidence in an arbitration proceeding.
