Broad experience as attorney engaged in the general practice of law with an emphasis on business law, personal injury law and bankruptcy law. Business experience includes business formation, business management legal counseling, employment law, and corporate governance. Engaged in litigation in a broad range of matters including personal injury and tort law, contract and employment law, race discrimination, and relative to reorganization in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Bankruptcy reorganization is inclusive of all aspects of an operating business, in that the debtor in bankruptcy is required to reorganize their business across the board and in accordance with the bankruptcy law to meet the requirements thereof while seeking to emerge from bankruptcy to continue with the operation of the business.

Experienced Court-Connected Mediator in Oregon. Mediating and have mediated court connected matters during much of the past five years, with a substantial interruption during COVID. Presently mediating Forcible Entry and Detainer, or Landlord/Tenant matters at the Circuit Court of Washington County. Prior to COVID, was mediating a mix of FED and Small Claims matters, with a significant portion of work at the Justice Court in Beaverton, Oregon.

The primary issues involved in the cases dealt with are Small Claims disputes and what is referred to as Forcible Entry and Detainer (FED.) The Small Claims matters mediated in the Justice Court were widely varied and included everything from Business Matters such as breach of contract to automobile accidents to insurance coverage and other civil matters. The FED matters are essentially Landlord/Tenant disputes.

My mediation philosophy is one where I believe that the mediator’s role is to be a facilitator in seeking to resolve disputes to the benefit of both parties to a dispute. I seek to place parties at ease with the understanding that I am not there as an advocate, attorney or judge, but rather as a neutral person with a legal background who wishes to try to “bridge the gap” between them to seek a fair and just resolution of their dispute obviating he necessity of a trial. I believe in working with people as individuals, listening carefully and having respect for the fact that, as I was taught early in my legal career, there are two sides to every story.
