More than a 38-year legal and judicial career. Extensive experience in employment, healthcare payor provider disputes, business and commercial litigation, including complex cases, intellectual property, partnership disputes, real estate, eminent domain, entertainment, professional malpractice, habitability, consumer disputes, and civil rights. As an attorney, managed a diverse caseload of lawsuits, including trials and arbitrations. Appointed to the Superior Court by the Governor of the State of California in 2005. Presided over numerous jury and non-jury trials. Managed a heavy caseload of law and motion matters. Managed a wide array of discovery disputes and conducted numerous settlement conferences. For seven years, served on the California Judicial Council (JCC) and served on JCC’s Executive, Litigation and Rules committees. In the Los Angeles Superior Court, served as Assistant Supervising Judge of the civil division, Chair of the new judges training program and on the court’s Technology and Community Outreach committees.

Mediator since retirement from the Los Angeles Superior Court in May 2023. The last three years on the bench, was a settlement judge in the court's mandatory settlement conference program and conducted two MSCs a day. Experience has spanned a wide range of practice areas including business disputes, employment, commercial, entertainment, governmental, health care, construction, real estate, personal injury, real property, landlord tenant, partnership/joint venture disputes, easements, among others. She served as faculty on the Beverly Hills Bar Association's Mediation Training Course September 2024 and other mediation classes.

EMPLOYMENT: Discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, employee misclassification, labor code violations, etc. HEALTHCARE: Residential care and rehabilitation provider disputes involving reimbursement of claims, negligence, fraud, and wrongful death. BUSINESS/COMMERCIAL: Breach of contract, trade secret appropriation, unfair competition, etc. PARTNERSHIP/JOINT VENTURES: Disputes involving partnerships, joint ventures, and governance of entities such as corporations and religious organizations. CONSTRUCTION: Disputes involving commercial and residential construction projects between owners, contractors and sub-contractors. LANDLORD/TENANT: Habitability issues, breach of commercial and residential leases, housing discrimination, evictions, etc.

Judge Lyons is known for her persistence, innovative skills, empathy, and preparedness, Judge Lyons has a demonstrated ability to connect with litigants. She establishes trust by creating an environment that encourages open communication, enabling her to understand each party’s perspective and identify issues that impact settlement positions. Judge Lyons’ diverse experience as an attorney and as a judge gives her the unique ability to evaluate and flesh out the cases’ strengths and weaknesses in order to reach a resolution. Her aptitude in this space has inspired a true passion for mediation, leading her to continue her career in dispute resolution in the private sector. Judge Lyons is a native Spanish-speaking mediator/arbitrator. Having lived and studied Mexican/international law in Mexico City, she possesses a unique understanding of the nuances and sensitivities within the Spanish-speaking community. Her native proficiency in Spanish allows her to effectively communicate with diverse clients, fostering trust and respect for their cultural perspectives.
