Twenty-three year career as a Milwaukee County Circuit Judge. Presided over 400 jury trials in both civil and criminal cases. Prior to serving as a Circuit Judge, elected Municipal Judge in the City of Glendale and was in private practice, handling a variety of civil and criminal litigation matters. As a Judge, presided over hundreds of civil trials. Conducted hearings with efficiency and impartiality, adhering to arbitration rules and due process, and issued well-supported written decisions. Guided parties through interest-based negotiation, helping clients identify underlying issues, manage risk, and achieve cost-effective settlements. Successfully mediated a broad range of commercial disputes, including breach of contract, business-to-business conflicts, vendor agreements, and partnership dissolutions as well as consumer protection claims involving product liability, false advertising, unfair trade practices, and warranty disputes. Also mediated disputes under state and federal statutes including the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Skilled in remote and in-person arbitration formats, pre-hearing management, settlement facilitation, and expert testimony evaluation. Have served on the faculty for the Office of Judicial Education for over 25 years and have taught judges in the areas of domestic violence, evidence, alternative dispute resolution, and a variety of civil litigation matters.

Has mediated many types of civil lawsuits, and at least 15% of the mediations involved multiple parties. In all, has mediated over 200 civil cases/disputes.

Personal Injury and Products liability issues; insurance policy exclusions, primary/ excess/umbrella coverage, and claims of bad faith, all types of contract disputes (consumer and well as commercial), Lemon Law and Magnuson/Moss warranty claims, real estate disputes, alleged fraud and unfair business practices, and consumer protection laws.

I require parties’ written submissions in advance of the mediation. These submissions should not exceed 8 pages. I analyze the submissions to get a feel for the dispute. I then allow the parties to verbalize their positions in caucus sessions which allows me to further explore their needs and interests. Many times, the disputes don’t settle on the first attempt. I will then continue to explore resolution either by phone, in person or virtually. I don’t give up easily.
