Highly experienced retired U.S. District Judge with 27 years’ experience adjudicating and mediating commercial disputes including contracts, banking and securities, corporate and fiduciary obligations, employment, insurance coverage, and product liability. Presided over more than 300 federal jury trials including class action cases and multi-district litigation (MDL). Served as a visiting trial judge in federal courts nationwide, including New York City, Tampa, Jacksonville, Phoenix, Tucson, Boise, Coeur d'Alene, and Salt Lake City. Experience
As Chief Judge, oversaw the court’s budget and finances, served as the judiciary’s liaison to other branches of government, and supervised approximately 300 court employees. Before judicial service, tried more than 150 jury trials and argued 40 appellate cases during 18 years of legal practice. Also worked in the corporate sector as a director of a publicly-traded company, managing matters involving shareholder litigation, banking and regulatory enforcement, and the development of strategies that contributed to a successful initial public offering.
As an arbitrator, has presided over disputes involving commercial and employment disputes, personal injury claims, wildfire damage, municipality disputes, and international breach-of-contract claims.
As a mediator, has assisted numerous parties in resolving contract, employment, personal injury, and sexual assault cases, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, property and land use issues, legal and medical malpractice claims, defamation allegations, and regulatory enforcement actions.
Mediator Experience
Successfully mediated hundreds of federal civil cases presiding nationwide over federal jury trials covering a diverse range of commercial and civil case types including class actions and multi-district litigation. Experience mediating and arbitrating all types of commercial and business disputes including experience in international arbitration.

Daily Rate: $12,000.00
Study Rate: $600.00/hr

Comment: Up to two hours of study time is included in the daily rate. Additional study time is billed at $600 per hour.
If outside San Diego County, travel time billed at $200/hr; travel expenses (hotel, transportation) billed at actual cost; per diem $100/day. No charge otherwise.
No cancellation fee if session cancelled 5 business days in advance; however, parties will be billed for any prior study time. Cancellation fee of $2500 plus study time if session canceled fewer than 5 days before scheduled session.
