With over three decades of experience, has handled major commercial litigation, investment treaty and commercial arbitrations in various sectors, both as arbitrator and counsel. Presently acting as Counsel in some of India’s most high-value disputes. As the Founding President of the Arbitration Bar of India, has been a leading figure in Indian arbitration landscape for several years now, and has been called upon by the Indian Supreme Court to assist it on questions of arbitration law on multiple occasions.

Has been one of India’s leading arbitration practitioners over the decades. As Senior Advocate (equivalent to a King’s Counsel in India), the Supreme Court has called upon him to assist it on questions of arbitration law on multiple occasions. As a court appointed amicus curiae, has argued an appeared before 7-Judge and 5-Judge Constitution Benches of the Court. Has been Additional Solicitor General of India, in which capacity represented the Union of India in several arbitration and enforcement disputes. Also involved in policy reforms as member of High-Powered Committee constituted by the Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India to suggest reforms to India’s arbitration regime. Has also represented multiple multi-national corporations in arbitration proceedings, as well as connected proceedings before Indian courts, including set-aside, enforcement and appointment proceedings.

Has successfully acted as mediator in shareholder disputes arising out of Indian joint families which affected the financials of listed Indian companies worth more than USD 200 million. Has successfully acted as mediator in shareholder disputes between foreign investors and Indian entities on the issue of share valuation.

Has successfully resolved issues regarding control and line of succession in Indian joint family businesses where the companies were listed. Has successfully mediated disputes relating to valuation of shares held by foreign entities and helping the parties reach a settlement as to the exit value for the shares.

Encourages parties to explore their deeper interests and long-term goals, so that a myopic view of the situation is shelved. Earnestly ensures that stakeholders are motivated to evolve their own solutions. Strongly prefers joint sessions from the outset, with separate confidential sessions with each party to explore deeper interests and greater clarity as to long term goals, if needed.
