Mediator Style & Process Preferences
True to core mediation principles, the outcome of the mediation is in the hands of the parties. My approach is to empower parties to make informed decisions for themselves after thoroughly reviewing and discussing all relevant aspects to an issue.
A clear financial picture is critical to a productive mediation so I ask clients to provide financial worksheets to start. Using this information, we can discuss child support, spousal support as well as asset, debt and property division.
Parenting plans are approached with an eye to history as well as the future. Important factors include the children's ages, special needs and schedules; the parents' schedules; distance between homes; any other special circumstances so the plan fits each family's dynamics.
I am extraordinarily patient giving clients the time and space to work through emotions so they may make proposals and decisions with a clear mind. I am able to quickly build rapport with an easy-going yet competent demeanor.
I am calm and gentle to be supportive and encouraging but will be direct and a clear agent of reality when needed to keep the negotiations on track. I am comfortable asking the hard questions and "holding up a mirror" to a client or pointing out the flaws in their argument to encourage compromise and balance.
Both joint session and individual caucus are used to make each session as productive as possible. I prefer to mediate in two-hour blocks with space in between sessions used for clients to research needed information, consult with other professionals and to process emotions.

Comment: Asks that a deposit of $300 ($150 each party) be paid ahead of the scheduled session. If either party cancels with less than 48 hours notice, that party must submit another $150 deposit before another session is scheduled. Both parties are asked to pay the remaining $150 at the start of the session so no additional fees are owed unless all parties agree to add more time to a session.
